BY AIR

There are international airports at Lisboa, Oporto, Faro, Funchal (Madeira), Ponta Delgada (São Miguel Island-Azores) and Lages (Terceira Island-Azores).

Lisboa International Airport (Portela) is 7 km from the city centre and has daily flights to and from the major cities in Europe and the world. The Portuguese airlines TAP - Air Portugal and PGA - Portugália Airlines, as well as major international airlines, fly to and from Lisboa. From the airport to the conference venue and hotels there are the following choices: Aerobus (bus line 91), an express bus which connects the airport directly to the city centre running every 20 minutes; regular bus lines 5, 8, 22, 44, 45, 83 (board fare 1,30 Euro); taxi (about 7 Euros, plus luggage tax).

BY ROAD

Lisboa is connected to all major road networks in Europe via Spain: motorway A6 (Lisboa-Elvas) connects to the Spanish A5-E90 to Madrid, Spain, through the East; motorway A1 (Lisboa-Porto) connects to the Spanish A55 to Vigo via A3 (Porto-Valença), through the North; motorway A2 (Lisboa-Albufeira) connects to the Spanish A49 to Sevilla, Spain via A22 (Lagos-Vila Real), through the South; motorway A23 (Torres Novas-Guarda) connects Lisboa to A1 and to the Spanish A62 to Burgos, via A25 (Aveiro-Vilar Formoso), also through the East.

There are three bus companies running services between many European cities and Oporto (Inter-Norte), Lisboa (Inter-Centro) and Faro (Inter-Sul).

BY RAIL

National and international trains arrive in Lisboa Santa Apolónia terminal station, and to the more recent Gare do Oriente, which opened in 1998 adjacent to the Parque das Nações. There are two basic international connections to/from Lisboa: the Sud-Express – Lisboa-Hendaye (France), connecting to the TGV network takes about 15 hours; the Lusitânia Comboio Hotel - Lisboa-Madrid, takes about 5 hours.
